Preventive care treatment at The Mayhill
We aim to help all of our patients keep their teeth for life. Regular tooth brushing and flossing are the cornerstone to healthy teeth and gums. Regular visits to our hygienist will focus on improving and maintaining the condition of your teeth and gums.
Bad breath is a very common problem and is usually caused by bacteria that coat the gums and teeth. Correct brushing and flossing is very important to keeping your breath fresh.
This bacteria can also cause gum disease and dental decay. Regular visits to the dentist and hygienist can help prevent this problem. Smoking can also be a cause of bad breath along with certain illnesses such as nasal and stomach conditions.
Fluoride applications and fissure sealants (tooth coloured) are applied to the tooth surface to prevent decay. We offer preventive sessions for children which include fissure sealants, oral hygiene instruction and dietary advice. We take signs of decay in a young dentition very seriously and will try to nip this in the bud.
Oral cancer screening
Oral cancer can occur in any part of the mouth including the tongue, lips and throat. The mortality rate is just 50% despite treatment. This is due to late detection. Regular dental check-ups allow early detection of any abnormalities.
Please visit the dentist immediately if you notice any abnormal problems.
Sugars in our diet are the major cause of tooth decay. We encourage patients to limit the number of times that sugary food and drinks comes into contact with their teeth. Acidic food and drink is also a major concern as it can cause tooth erosion.
